Toledo is a genuine open-air museum, the former capital of Spain and one of the most important cities on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Its cathedral, the most imposing in the country, houses works by world-famous painters and rivals some of the world’s leading museums. Known as the city of El Greco, Toledo has managed to remain unchanged since the 16th century. With structures bearing traces of Roman, Visigothic, Arab, Gothic and Renaissance architecture, narrow streets, El Greco’s paintings, traditional pastry shops, Damascene shops and, of course, its famous cathedral, it is a tourist crossroads. Another tradition in Toledo, dating back to the time when the Arabs conquered the city, is the production of marzipan. A visit to Toledo is not considered complete without tasting this mouth-watering confection. Following our walk through the Jewish Quarter, we depart for Madrid. Upon arrival, a panoramic city tour. We begin with the large square called Plaza Mayor. This square has 136 buildings and 437 balconies opening onto courtyards. In the past, bullfights and people burned by the Inquisition were watched from these balconies.
